ABOUT THE VIRTUAL ADSW SUMMIT

Date: Tuesday 19 January 2021 | 11 AM - 9 PM Gulf Standard Time (GST)

The critical importance of sustainability has been further reinforced during the pandemic. While this year has taught us how truly fragile our world can be, it has also demonstrated the power we possess, when working together, to overcome global challenges.

The virtual ADSW Summit will bring together leaders from policy, business and technology to define new pathways for delivering a green recovery in a post COVID-19 world.

Taking place across three two-hour sessions, the Summit will centralize around three pillars - Live & Move, Care & Engage, Work & Invest. Each pillar will allow participants and audiences to explore topics that will reimage sustainable development and open up social, economic and technological opportunities for delivering a green recovery.

Hosted by Masdar, the virtual ADSW Summit is in partnership with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Atlantic Council and Abu Dhabi Global Market.

As the anchor event of ADSW, the virtual Summit will allow participants to:

  • Hear from global decision makers on delivering a green recovery in a post-COVID-19 world
  • Learn how technology is accelerating sustainable development through Artificial Intelligence, energy transformation and resource management
  • Network virtually with sustainability leaders from across the world
  • Understand how our industry is adapting to global challenges
  • Identify opportunities for business growth

Program Pillars

  1. LIVE & MOVE: Individuals are changing their eating habits, traveling less, and making different energy choices. A younger generation of consumers is increasing the pace of change. In a recent study, more than 54% of respondents said that living in a way that is good for themselves, others and the environment was a major priority, but only 37% said they currently lived this way. What more must be done to minimize the gap between intention and behavior? COVID-19 has also changed the notion of place of work for many, possibly for good, while government policy to drive a green recovery will change the way we power our homes and embrace sustainable living.
  2. CARE & ENGAGE: COVID-19 dictated lockdowns are giving us the opportunity to experience how reduced activity and travel impact the environment. Surveys show that for many people slower economic growth would be a price worth paying to protect the environment. COP26 has the potential to kick start a new decade of high-impact climate agreements and sustainable global recovery. National resilience strategies are also taking on a new meaning as they now have to encompass not just sustainability but also pandemic preparedness, which calls for new solutions.
  3. WORK & INVEST: How will business leaders adapt to the consumer expectations of responsible sourcing? With signs that the end of unchecked consumption is nearing, many consider the Circular Economy as the way forward. It will help consumers and organizations appreciate and implement systemic sustainability. Driven by visionary leaders, as well as pressure from investors, positive developments in the corporate world are emerging: ESG investments are now outperforming non-ESG, and a growing number of the world’s biggest companies are focusing on Net-Zero with 2030 identified as the target year for becoming carbon-neutral.
