UNDP raised awareness on inclusive urban resilience in 2 high-level advocacy events highlighting the critical link between governance and urban vulnerability/resilience, and strategies to mainstream disaster risk reduction (DRR) in local development. As floods and fire outbreaks are 2 of the main disasters in urban Ghana, fire safety and flood awareness materials (3,000 copies) were developed and disseminated to help people better understand what steps to take in case of disasters. National and local authorities are using the lessons learned to improve disaster response mechanisms and contingency planning. UNDP provided both technical and financial support for the development of floods and disaster preparedness, and response plans for 24 districts, incorporating WASH considerations.
