The book "Developing National Urban Policies: Ways Forward to Green and Smart Cities" illustrates how a national urban policy and smart cities approaches can serve as a framework to address urban challenges such as increasing disparity, unemployment, growth of slums, lack of basic services and spread of violence and crime, many of which have emerged precisely due to the absence of or ineffective urban policies, and how such smart cities approaches can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on making cities and humans settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
